Japanese knotweed white paper issued to developers

National trade body the Property Care Association (PCA) has produced a White Paper for developers, addressing the issue of Japanese knotweed.

Japanese Knotweed

The Association’s Invasive Weed Control Group has pulled together a range of expertise to complete the technical guide, entitled ‘The Problems of Japanese Knotweed - Advice for Developers.’

It can be viewed here

PCA chief executive Steve Hodgson said: "When developing land that is impacted by Japanese knotweed, it is essential that all developers are aware of the risks posed by this invasive weed to avoid the pitfalls of costly remediation, as well as litigation and resale issues.

"This White Paper sets out the main factors of relevance to developers and other property professionals.

"It is a useful resource document for the industry."

The PCA has worked with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - supported by the Council of Mortgage Lenders and The Building Societies Association - together with Japanese knotweed control companies to develop the Invasive Weed Control Group.

The trade body has also developed a code of practice and an industry-recognised training programme for its professional members and those interested in the biology and control of the plant.

Recently, the PCA has also produced a short film on impact and control of knotweed here
